It hurts to post this, but the wedding was called off in May. We had planned to be married today, August 20th, 2009 - but instead I will be soaking in the energy of Big Sur - independent - surrounded by my favorite women.
Sometimes things don't turn out as planned. You make your past your past.
but
In the depth of winter
I've finally found that in me
is an invincible summer
Shine on you crazy diamonds.

We have our dresses!

So, WHO KNEW! David's Bridal would be the place to find the dresses? Crazy - totally not my style, but I loved the way these three dresses worked together. Kate will be wearing the darker teal dress. Sarah will be wearing the light blue with the spaghetti straps, and Monica will be wearing the sweetheart strapless. Each dress seems to reflect a bit of each girls personality and at least everyone won't look like little matching soldiers! Plus, the dresses are in a nice price range with a full spectrum of sizes. Anyhow - this has been the hardest part of the wedding thus far - actually deciding on colors. So I think the flowers will be deep pinks and oranges with gold wheat as an accent. Now we can move onto the guys and the fun little wedding details! Things are definitely falling into place! Yay!

We have our photographer!
Greg from Once Studio in Saucalito will be shooting our wedding. His photographs are great, plus he's shot a bunch of weddings in Big Sur before. http://www.oncestudio.com/

Last, but not least....Ventana
This is the reception site at the "Upper Terrace" - again, beautiful views of the ocean. Space for dancing, a huge outdoor fireplace and a pretty veranda. We both really liked this space.
So this is the ceremony site with a beautiful view of the ocean and hillsides. Scott loved this location - the acoustics are really nice and it is an intimate area that would seat 50 people very comfortably.

Bridesmaid Dresses

So this is one of my favorite dresses so far. It is a lovely aqua marine color with floral accents in a wheat/gold hue. It would look gorgeous paired with gold/brass colored jewelry and some bright magenta/coral colored flowers. We're hoping all the girls can find their size, and if not, then maybe one bridesmaid can buy the dress then we can find two others that are different but in the same general color palette. Fun fun!

Rancho Rico (Revisited)

Big Sur Day with Mom - Stop 2. Rancho Rico!
So...
This is what I was talking about when I envisioned a 'Big Sur ranch wedding'!!!! This property is absolutely amazing. There are uninterrupted, 180-degree sweeping views of the pacific at the ceremony site. There are no frills - it is a working ranch with cattle and horses and dogs running around. Beautiful, rustic wooden fences, natural grasses and trees...just simple, Big Sur magesty! I LOVE it, and can't wait to bring Scott - he fell in love with the pictures, so I know he will love it in person. Lygia has a large barn that she lives in - the upstairs being her private art studio - the barn can open for dancing if you choose to have your reception at the site. Then there is a fairly flat area in front of the barn where tables can be set up...I'm thinking however, that we would probably only have the ceremony here - spend a couple of hours with the guests taking photos, drinking lemonade and champaign while enjoying the stunning views and property. I am pretty much afraid to commit to an outdoor reception due to weather inpradictability and the questionable comfort of the guests. Plus renting a tent costs an arm and a leg...which is out of our price range anyway. But oh those views! If we decide on this location I will HAVE to wear cowboy boots!!!
Big Sur Day with Mom - Stop 1. Paion!
So this is beautiful Paion, and of course the images don't do it any justice...but it is breathtaking. The lawn is perfectly manicured and you are right on the cliffs above the ocean where you can hear the crashing waves. Diane was a great host with tons of valuable information and experience working with the homeowners. My Mom and I had so much fun seeing the beautiful place. There was also a firepit and a small wooden platform on the edge of the cliff for the bride and groom to post up on after the ceremony to enjoy a few private moments together. What a treat to see such a beautiful private property in Big Sur!

Beautiful Nepenthe.
Ah, Nepenthe. I was telling Scott while sitting on the patio of Nepenthe, in the 80 degree sun, looking over the edge of the cliff onto blue ocean waters, that this 'feels like home'. It just does. Something about Big Sur is just so comforting and exhilerating at the same time. I can see myself living there. And of course, Nepenthe is awesome!! They do weddings too, but only up to 80ppl with a site fee of $4000. Then, on top of that you have to rent all the linens, flatware, stemware, etc. Would add up quick - but you just can't beat that view!!! I'm in love.
